‘TNSM to continue struggle for Shariah implementation’

BATKHELA: The Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) of the recently freed cleric Maulana Sufi Muhammad said on Thursday the organisation would continue ‘peaceful’ struggle for the implementation of Shariah in Malakand division. “We are neither moderate and progressive, nor democrats and extremists. Rather we are true Muslims and shall continue our peaceful struggle for the supremacy of Islam,” said a written statement distributed to journalists after the maiden meeting of central shura of TNSM since the release of Sufi Muhammad last month. The meeting was held at Bilal Masjid, Amandara in Batkhela with Sufi Muhammad in the chair, and was attended by nearly 300 senior leaders, office-bearers and members of the group. Journalists were not allowed to ask questions about rebel cleric Fazlullah, who is also the son-in-law of Sufi Muhammad, or about the situation in Swat. The statement warned print and electronic media against mentioning TNSM as a banned organisation. “We are not banned and no one can ban us. TNSM will remain active like the mainstream political parties of the country,” said the statement.
